Wanted: News reporter for The Nome Nugget


The Nome Nugget, Alaska’s oldest newspaper, seeks a full-time news reporter, covering general news assignments in word and photo in Nome and the surrounding communities in the Bering Strait and Norton Sound region in northwestern Alaska. Assignments may cover city politics, business, tribal issues, climate change, science, education and crime & courts.

Must have excellent news judgment and a track record of accuracy, be versed in AP style and must have the ability to meet deadlines.

Qualifications: A college degree in any topic; at least two years experience in the news business and preferably experience reporting the news in rural Alaska. The successful candidate must be detailed oriented, self-motivated and has the ability to handle multiple complex stories in the weekly news cycle.

The Nome Nugget is a family-owned, weekly newspaper serving northwest Alaska. Don’t apply if you need shopping malls, super high speed internet or if cold, dark Alaskan winters scare you. Must have a sense of adventure and be willing to travel by bush plane to our surrounding communities. Nome is not connected to the road system and can only be reached by airplane.
