Title: Production Director
Reports to: Vice President of Production
General Summary of Position: The Production Director will work closely with the Vice-President of Production in facilitating the printing and packaging of the newspaper and all commercial work, assist in assembling the budget for the production administration department and review of budgets with the managers of the Packaging Center and Pressroom. The Production Director is responsible for managing production directors and remedying any production issues. In addition to working closely with The Vice President of Production the Production Director will be required to work with Advocate managers, supervisors and employees to keep communication lines open and assure all products are within quality specifications and delivered on time. The overall goal is to meet and/or exceed our advertisers’ needs and expectations with quality products and to provide our subscribers with unsurpassed service and reliability. The Production Director will assume the day-to-day duties of the Vice President of Production in his/her absence.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
A: Operations Management
Responsible for working with directors and managers to implement and monitor projects to reduce costs, achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness while looking for methods to improve product quality.
Management of personnel resources — motivating, developing and directing people as they work; identifying the best people for the job.
Work closely with production directors to resolve any scheduling, reproduction and inserting problems and partner with advertising and news departments to ensure a quality product is printed in a timely manner at minimum cost.
Observe and evaluate staff job performance and recommend training for staff, while providing access to training and helping implement staff training as needed.
Administer’s disciplinary actions when required.
Meet with the Vice President of Production on a daily basis to discuss any outstanding production issues.
Attend the daily production meeting Monday through Friday, and facilitate when the Vice President of Production is absent.
Partner with all departments to create open lines of communication for all work-flow processes.

Education, Experience, and Knowledge Requirements:
Five years management and production experience preferred.
Considerable knowledge of printing press production.
Thorough knowledge of color quality.(This includes meeting quality standards and quality control).
Thorough knowledge of production and processes. (Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods).
Thorough knowledge of administration and management – knowledge of production and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods and coordination of people and resources.
