Continuing Status Faculty Position
About the Job
The Department of Linguistics and English Language at Brigham Young University announces one continuing status position (BYU’s equivalent of tenure track) in editing and English language. Candidates should hold (or show strong promise of completion by the date of hire) a Ph.D. in a field that is demonstrably applicable to editing and publishing. Appropriate fields of graduate study might include—but are not necessarily restricted to—linguistics, English language, publishing studies, and technical and professional communications. Candidates with editing and production experience will also be particularly attractive.
Primary responsibilities under a 10-month contract will include (1) teaching six courses per year, at least four of those in BYU’s editing minor, (2) conducting and publishing research applicable to editing or publishing, and (3) completing other departmental or college responsibilities, such as committee service and student advising. Depending upon the successful applicant’s expertise, teaching responsibilities would also include other courses in linguistics or English language, including advanced courses in some area of specialization. Starting rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Brigham Young University, an equal opportunity employer, does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, age, national origin, veteran status or against qualified individuals with disabilities. All faculty are required to abide by the university’s honor code and dress and grooming standards. Preference is given to qualified candidates who are members in good standing of the affiliated church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
