About the Job
Editor is responsible for all aspects of TIMELINE, the Ohio Historical Society's history journal. Sets the vision and goals for TIMELINE to maintain and enhance the reputation of the Society and the publication. Develops editorial calendar. Reviews and evaluates manuscripts and proposals. Recruits potential authors (both inside and outside OHS). Writes and/or edits articles, captions and miscellaneous copy. Proofreads copy and various proofs. Corresponds and communicates with authors, vendors, and others including contract negotiation. Takes lead to collaborate with others (e.g. Marketing, Membership, Institutional Advancement) to promote and support TIMELINE sales and subscriptions. Oversees departmental staff, outside authors and vendors. Oversees quality control for publication and work with editorial and graphics personnel on securing artwork and graphics. Works to integrate TIMELINE with various OHS functions to include membership, donors, historic sites, education programs and curatorial staff. Develops and monitors budget. Qualifications: Master's degree in American History or equivalent working experience. Five to ten years writing and editing experience. Experience managing/recruiting writers and editors. Knowledge related to digital/online publishing a plus.
