About the Job

THE EDUCATIONAL THEATRE ASSOCIATION (EdTA) is a professional organization for theatre education with approximately 90,000 members nationwide. EdTA’s mission is shaping lives through theatre education by: honoring student achievement in theatre and enriching their theatre education experience; supporting teachers by providing professional development, networking opportunities, resources, and recognition; and influencing public opinion that theatre education is essential and builds life skills. EdTA operates the International Thespian Society (ITS), an honorary organization that has inducted over 2 million theatre students since its founding in 1929.

JOB DESCRIPTION: EdTA seeks a Senior Associate Editor for Teaching Theatre Journal. The primary duties of this individual are to serve as the senior associate editor for the quarterly print and web-based journal, Teaching Theatre, and in a support capacity for the journal’s sister publication, the monthly Dramatics magazine (also print and web-based). Those duties include manuscript evaluation, issue planning, article development, reporting and writing, copyediting, art research, pre-production, production, workflow management, proofreading, and routine correspondence with writers and vendors. As the senior associate editor of Teaching Theatre, he or she is expected to serve in a leadership capacity, capable of making content and production decisions, as designated by the journal’s editor, including guiding other publication staff in key content and production decisions. The senior editor will also be asked to contribute writing, editing, proofreading, and management services to Dramatics and other print and web-based documents, under the guidance of the director of publications.
