My previous job with was working for an independent publishing company in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment. I provided general administrative support for all departments, including editorial support, training and managing interns, assisting with bookkeeping/accounts, troubleshooting website/computer issues, and consistently updating our website. Due to the small team I was working with at Kore Press, my position as Publishing/Marketing Assistant also included the duties of an office manager, including answering phone calls, scheduling meetings, ensuring office supplies were stocked, tracking inventory and sales, organizing files, maintaining author contracts, and fulfilling customer and distributor orders. I have experience writing press releases, creating management reports, designing and editing professional documents, compiling and analyzing data spreadsheets, maintaining author relationships, composing and replying to professional emails and inquiries, handling sales transactions, and assisting with event planning and preparation. I acted as press representative at several large-scale publishing events, including the 2016 AWP Conference and Bookfair in Los Angeles, as well as the 2016 and 2017 Tucson Poetry Festivals.
I have a proven ability to meet deadlines and set priorities, as demonstrated by my completion of a three-month remote internship with SG Literary Scouting, where I was required to write lengthy reports on unpublished manuscripts approximately four to five times per week. I consistently wrote, edited, and submitted each report within twenty-four hours (typically 8-12 hours) of receiving each manuscript. Completed reports were between 3,000-6,000 words and included book data, a logline, a comment summary/book pitch with suggestions of best genre and marketplace, a detailed synopsis, and a final section of general commentary. I was also asked to review and edit completed reports written by other interns.
I know how to motivate myself to reach both personal and company goals, I can quickly adapt to new expectations and environments, and I strive to exercise compassion and understanding in all difficult or stressful situations.
