Cover LetterA graduate of American University, I have spent 27 years in the media, corporate communications and marketing. I believe my strong background and wide range of experience would be an asset to your organization.
Currently, I am the Editor in Chief of the Fauquier Times and Prince William Times weekly newspapers, as well as associated publications and digital editions, leading the editorial mission of the papers. With the assistance of my Managing Editor, I head a team of editors, reporters and freelance talent, planning coverage in two counties, collaborate with Production and Advertising on presentation, and working on budgets and strategic planning with the Publisher. I also write stories as necessary, and occasional column, and a majority of the editorials. Prior to that, as Managing Editor, I was in charge of newsroom production, and in the current position I continue to paginate the news sections.
Over the course of my career I have worked nearly every position in the modern newsroom, written hard news and opinion, created and taught classes on news writing, and developed workshops for editors on working with freelancers. I have been on the front lines in the move to digital platforms and social media, and maintain multiple websites, blogs and related social media accounts.
I am a passionate advocate of community journalism. Confident my skills make me a solid candidate for this opening, I respectfully submit my resume for your review and request a meeting to discuss this exciting opportunity. An easy to browse portfolio of my work, including writing samples and downloadable resume are available on my website, cdsix.com.
I will make myself available at your convenience and look forward hearing from you to arrange a time. Thank you for your consideration.
