Teaching Fellow – National Writers Series

The Writers Series of Traverse City, also known as the National Writers Series, is one of the largest year-round book festivals in the country. We are also dedicated to teaching students the power and skills of storytelling. In 2012, we created the Front Street Writers in collaboration with the public school system. The program enrolls 11th and 12th graders, who are passionate about writing. The course covers a wide range of genres, from poetry and fiction to creative nonfiction to journalism and promotional writing.

We are inviting applications for an annual Teaching Fellow position. The ideal candidate will be a published writer, preferably in both creative writing and journalism. Candidates should have a record of proven excellence as a writing instructor. The TF teaches collaboratively with a full-time classroom teacher at the TBA-ISD Career Tech Center. A morning and afternoon class are held each day. The TF would help provide daily instruction, conduct writing workshops, and meet one-on-one with students. The TF also collaborates with the National Writers Series executive director on classroom visits by nationally renowned authors; publication of an annual literary journal; website content; and student speaking at NWS author events.

The job is a 9.5-month position, 30 hours per week, which pays $750 per week. We also provide a nicely furnished, two-bedroom apartment located in the heart of Traverse City (utilities are included).
