Senior Writer/Editor, Tufts Medicine Magazine – University Relations-17001057

Tufts’ Communications & Marketing is responsible for marketing and branding, public relations and editorial services, producing print and online publications and communications for the university. Within the department, the Editorial Group writes, edits and produces the university news site Tufts Now, and seven magazines (the flagship Tufts Magazine among them). The Editorial Group also includes a photography department and a multimedia producer. The team works closely with colleagues in Communications & Marketing and others across the university to create first-rate storytelling, strong images and multimedia to support Tufts’ communications goals.

We’re looking for the next great editor of Tufts Medicine magazine, the award-winning alumni magazine of the Tufts University School of Medicine and the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences. We cover some of the most exciting and important scientific research being conducted anywhere—and we never forget that what brings that research to life is the stories of the people behind it. At Tufts Medicine, we prize terrific storytelling, crisp design, and vivid photography, and now we’re on the hunt for a new editor. Our ideal candidate is an experienced magazine writer and editor, preferably with a science journalism background.

Basic Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
• 10 years of magazine and/or newspaper writing and editing experience
• Ability to develop strong relationships with administrators and faculty at the School of Medicine and elsewhere so that the magazine stays current with the best people and science at the university
• Superior written and oral communications skills
• Demonstrated success working in a deadline-driven, collaborate environment
• Impeccable attention to detail; excellent organizational skills; mastery of style and grammar
Preferred Qualifications:
• Science journalism background a plus
• Expertise in a digital publishing environment
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Occasional travel.
