|The managing editor as a part of the University Communications team will guide the content needs for Central Michigan University’s official communications channels, including traditional print, online, digital and multimedia. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented leader who is passionate about great writing and editing, has proven experience engaging audiences and has the skills to inspire creative storytelling in a multitude of formats.
This individual serves as primary editor for print and digital communications produced by the University Communications team. They will collaborate with UComm writers, graphic designers, photographers and videographers to write, edit and prepare content for production and distribution. This position will work to reach target audiences while understanding the differences between writing for print publications, advertising, digital communications and websites. The managing editor also will uphold CMU brand standards and tone of voice.
This individual must be a team player with strong project management and leadership skills. They will be a clear, creative thinker with the ability to identify innovative ideas and drive change.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or a related communications field.
3 years experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position.
Experience working as a newsroom editor.
Online content strategy experience.
Mastery of AP style.
Strong writing and editing skills.
Proven creation and delivery of engaging content.
Expertise in communicating across a variety of media, with content of varying formats.
Proven record using data to improve content performance.
Proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects, prioritize, stay organized and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.
Ability to solve problems quickly and effectively.
